National Gallery
The National Gallery overlooks Trafalgar Square and features works by Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, Titian and Turner amongst over 2300 in the collection, owned by the people of the United Kingdom. Entry to the National Gallery is Free, although there may be a charge for entry to some of the temporary exhibitions

Leicester Square
Leicester Square (pronounced Lester) is located in the heart of London's West End; north of Trafalgar Square, between Piccadily and Covent Garden, and close to Chinatown, Soho and Shaftsbury Avenue. It is named after the Earl of Leicester's Royal Mansion that once stood here - it was demolished in 1791. Leicester Square is now a bustling pedestrianised area surrounded by buildings housing several of London's largest cinemas - The Empire was once a music hall of the same name, built in 1884 and said to have shown the first moving pictures in Britain. Thousands of people turn out in Leicester Square for the premieres of big films. This is also a great place to pick up official cut-price theatre tickets from the 'Half-Price Ticket Booth'

Leicester Square
Leicester Square is the home of some of London's largest and most popular nightclubs, including The Hippodrome, Equinox and Maximus. On its tree-lined square there are many cafes and bars, including Chiquito and The Moon Under Water. It is also the gateway to Soho and nightlife of the West End. Duke of York's
This theatre was oringinally called The Trafalgar Square Theatre - being just 100 yards from Trafalgar Square - before shortening it to just The Trafalgar Theatre in 1894 before changing it completely to the Duke or York's Theatre in 1895.

Perhaps the most beautiful theatre in London, relatively large and traditionally showing classic quality plays.

Prince of Wales Theatre
The first theatre on this site was The Prince's Theatre which was designed by C J Phipps. This theatre was opened in January 1884 and was demolished in 1937 to make was for the larger present theatre. Currently showing 'Mamma Mia!'.
