Chelsea Physic Garden
Begun in 1673 for the study of plants used by the Society of Apothecaries. This garden is one of Europe's oldest botanic gardens and is the only one to retain the title 'Physic' after the old name for the healing arts.

Royal Hospital Chelsea
Founded in 1682 by Charles II as a retreat for army veterans who had become unfit for duty, the Royal Hospital Chelsea was built on the site of an intended theological college founded by James I in 1609.
