Tate Modern
The Tate Modern is a museum of modern art housed in a building, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, which used to be the Bankside Power Station. Opened in 2000 by the Queen, Tate modern has a collection of modern art from 1900 to the present day and includes works by Dali, Picasso and Warhol amongst others. There are seven floors of exhibits with excellent views over London from the top floor overlooking the Thames. The Tate Modern is Free to enter although there may be a charge many of the temporary exhibitions. There is now a Tate-to-Tate boat taking visitors from Tate Britain to Tate modern

Bankside Gallery
Bankside Gallery is the home of the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE). A series of regularly changing exhibitions throughout the year displays the work of both societies.

Southwark
On the South bank of the Thames where 1920's wharfs and warehouses stand next to the Tate Modern and the Millennium Bridge. Southwark Cathedral has many famous patrons include William Shakespeare and the founder of American Universities, John Harvard.

The Embankment
Built by the Romans to prevent the Thames flooding, and home to Wren's St Clements church and Cleopatra's Needle, a gift to the British people in recognition of Nelson's victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798. Boat trips along the river depart from here.

The South Bank
The South Bank stretches along the south of the Thames, from Waterloo Bridge to Blackfriars. It is London's centre of art, music and culture.
